The exhibition “LE COCCE – Recipes and Utensils Between History and New Proposals” showcased the rich tradition of local craft in ceramic arts, including new pieces designed by Enrico Tonucci, Johanna Dehio, Paola Palma, Niklas Jacob, Daniel Llorca and Francesco Ruffini.
For the exhibition Niklas Jacob created a playful work that brings the meaning of ceramics in antiquity into the present day. In ancient times, the vase was not merely an object for containing food, but also an object of exchange, a sacred object and a ceremonial object.
Today, what object represents this more than the “cup of all cups,” the UEFA Champions League trophy? Reflecting on this, and considering that the Champions League trophy already possesses the form of an ancient amphora, Niklas Jacob created a vase that evokes antiquity, based on the shape of the Champions League trophy. The amphora was crafted by ceramic artist Augusta Schinchirimini.
